DMM's state-of-the-art belay device, the Pivot, has won an Industry Award at OutDoor Friedrichshafen. The OutDoor Industry Awards, now in their 10th year, are a leading international design award for companies in the outdoor industry.
New and innovative products are assessed and evaluated by an independent panel of six expert judges. Together with a high level of innovation, several categories including functionality, workmanship and price/performance are used in assessing the product.
“Small changes can make a big difference,” explained the judges when selecting the belay device. The perfect angles together with the craftsmanship and material were enough to convince the judges’ panel. Their verdict was: “A beautifully made piece of gear.”
DMM's Technical Director, Fred Hall, said: "We're very pleased with this recognition for our latest belay device. Judging by the demand it is also shared by our customers. We spend a lot of time researching and designing new products so it's great to see it appreciated."
OutDoor write on their website: "Entries should display an exceptional degree of innovation and quality, and reflect the trends which are shaping the market. Products entered must not have been on the market for longer than two years prior to the date of the official prize-giving ceremony."
Thirty-nine awards were given out of 329 entrants. The Pivot can now proudly bear the OutDoor Industry Award 2015. Learn more about the Pivot and watch a short video of it in use.
Note: If you're wondering about the cardboard cut-out head in the award ceremony photo, it's our Design Engineer, Dougie Swanson-Low, who was heavily involved with the project but couldn't be with the team at the show.
