In the Red

Exiting Lexington Airport from the UK we were greeted by clinging humidity and the white noise of cicadas. It felt more exotic than I expected. As it was late we opted to spend our first night in a nearby Best Value Inn. Our room was akin to a 50’s movie set with a distinctly musty odour to match.

The short drive to Red River Gorge in the morning didn’t feel much like any part of America I’d been to before, but then the ‘Bluegrass State’ of Kentucky is the start of the American South; culturally very distinct from the rest of the States.
